Advancing Natural Fibres. Developing Sustainable Materials

Through R&D, product innovation and collaboration with manufacturers, research institutions and industry partners, we aim to unlock new applications for renewable natural fibres.

Our mission

Our mission is to support the transition towards a more circular, resource-efficient economy by transforming agricultural residues into valuable materials, reducing reliance on conventional resource-intensive alternatives and contributing to global efforts to address climate change.

Fibre, fabrics and yarns

From raw banana fibre to the yarns and fabrics made from it: grades, applications and the Musa range in one place.

Banana fibre grades and applications

We sort banana pseudostem fibre into four grades by length and fineness, so each grade goes to the use it suits best, from long strands for yarn to fine pulp for moulded products.

Grade A: long fibre

Grade A: long fibre

120–150 cm long, 1–3 mm diameter

Strongest and cleanest. Strong, smooth, long strands in natural cream to light brown.

  • High-value yarn (blended)
  • Woven fabric
  • Rope and cordage
  • Premium handicrafts and home décor
Grade B: medium fibre

Grade B: medium fibre

15–60 cm long, 0.5–1.5 mm diameter

Flexible and softer than Grade A. Suited to spinning, carding and blends.

  • Carded sliver (spinning feedstock)
  • Blended yarn (banana-cotton and more)
  • Non-woven felt
  • Rugs, mats and upholstery
Grade C: short fibre

Grade C: short fibre

5–15 cm long, 0.1–0.5 mm diameter

Fine, short and fluffy. Ideal for non-woven, composites and pulp.

  • Technical non-woven (industrial felt)
  • Composite boards (automotive, furniture)
  • Acoustic panels (wall and ceiling)
  • Insulation mats (thermal and acoustic)
Grade D: pulp and pith

Grade D: pulp and pith

Under 5 mm, mostly under 1 mm

Very fine and spongy, light brown to brownish. Fine fibre and pulp for moulded products.

  • Moulded packaging (trays, inserts)
  • Paper and paperboard (stationery, bags, packaging)
  • Microcrystalline cellulose for pharma, food and cosmetics
  • Process liquid (bio-nutrients and other uses)

Banana fibre non-woven for medical use

Short Grade C fibre becomes a soft, breathable, biodegradable non-woven. It is bonded with needles, so no chemical binder is needed, then sterilised for medical use.

  1. Clean the fibreGrade C fibres (5–15 cm) are cleaned, opened and made uniform.
  2. Card itFibres are opened, mixed and formed into a thin web.
  3. Form the webA continuous non-woven web is laid.
